CALL FOR NOMINATIONS TO THE MTAA BOARD OF DIRECTORS

 

(RED DEER, AB) – The time has come to consider volunteering for the MTAA Board of Directors!  This year marks the beginning of a new era: the beginning stages for the development of a College of Massage Therapists in Alberta.  The MTAA has worked towards Provincial Regulation for years, and now the process of developing the College Council is getting started.  It is an exciting time to be “in the know” and work towards the redevelopment of the MTAA’s role within the profession!


The Nominating Committee is responsible for presenting a slate of directors to MTAA members at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) to ensure the association is governed with excellence and vision. The Nominating Committee has begun the process of seeking nominations via this notice.

 

Members are urged to supply, in writing, the names of eligible members for the Committee to put forth for possible nomination to the Board. Members are advised that in accordance with the MTAA Bylaws, nominations may be registered either by mail, in which case the nominations shall be received by the Secretary at least fourteen (14) days prior to the date of the annual general meeting (October 3, 2009), or from the floor during the AGM, provided that: 

 

1) The nominator is an Active or Inactive member in good standing, and

2)  The nominee must be an Active or Inactive member in good standing and have indicated that he/she will let his/her name stand.

 

Please nominate a member whose qualities and attributes will further serve our Association.  The Association cannot function if directors are unwilling to attend Board meetings, or are otherwise unproductive within their designated Committees.  A list of preferred qualities are listed below.

 

It is requested that the attached Nomination Forms be completed in full and submitted to the MTAA Nominating Committee. These Nomination forms, complete with professional and volunteer background summary of the nominee’s qualifications, should be received at the MTAA Office by Friday August 28, 2009 via mail, fax or email. All Nominations received by this date will be included in the AGM notification packages to be sent out in early September for advance consideration by the membership as a whole.  Our goal in requesting submissions by the above noted date is to streamline the nominations process at the AGM!

 

If you are interested in self-nominating yourself, please fill out both sections of the nomination form. 

 

The following positions will be available for election at the October 3, 2009 AGM:

President

Treasurer

Director Five (5) positions available for a 2-year term

Director One (1) position available for a 1-year term

 

BOARD OF DIRECTORS ELIGIBILITY

Members of the Board, other than the Executive Director and Immediate Past President, shall be Active or Inactive Members in good standing, a resident of Canada and shall not have been found to have committed professional misconduct.

  1. Seventy five (75%) per cent of the elected members of the Board of Directors shall be Active Members of the Association.
  2. An Active Member in good standing of the Executive Committee of an association that has merged with the MTAA may serve on the Board.
  3. The President shall be an Active Member in good standing who has served at least one term on the Board of Directors within the last four (4) years.
  4. No Member of the Board shall hold more than one elected office within the association at any time.
  5. The Executive Director and the Past President shall be ex officio non-voting members of the Board.
  6. The President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer shall be the officers of the Association.

The MTAA is seeking applicants who:

  • Have the ability to commit and serve for a minimum of a 2-year term. 
  • Are comfortable with setting policy and establishing strategic direction. 
  • Work well as part of a team, can contribute reasoned opinion and accept and support decisions reached by majority consensus.
  • Are able to commit the time and resources to serve on the Board, committees, attend the Annual General Meeting and represent the MTAA as requested.

Meetings are held at the Association office located in Red Deer, Alberta with the exception of the November meeting which will be held at a location yet to be determined.

 This is your opportunity to become involved with your association!  Together, we will work towards achieving the current MTAA goals and help shape the direction that the association continues to move in.
